This is what Bre @browngirlselfcare had to say after her lesson: "Soooo…about that self-care. Y’all I never in my life thought I’d ever learn to shoot a gun. Like ever. The only experience i’ve had is seeing them being used in movies to be honest and they scared the hell out of me. but one thing about my liberation journey is that I want to do things that allow me to not only feel more empowered, but also help me to trust my intuition. And frankly, I just don’t want to allow the fear of guns to have any control over my life. On top of that, my daughter and I plan on living on some land in the south in the next couple of years and being able to feel comfortable using a gun is an absolute must."
Patty grew up witnessing so much gun violence that tragically affected her family, so this was a big step for her, learning to shoot a gun.
Because Patty does yoga and that's exactly how I equate shooting guns for the 1st time, it being just like yoga and meditation, you can hear how deep breathing really helped Patty manage her anxiety between shots.
I reminded her that it's normal to feel anxiety shooting guns for the 1st time, to acknowledge it, and then remind herself that she's also in complete control. And she did it! Shooting Holes in Holes with confidence!
It's only Karla's 2nd time shooting a gun, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to shoot 9mm and wanted to stick with 22LR.
She just needed a pep talk to shoot 9mm and surprised herself by shooting her 1st two shots through the same hole.
Karla and Juan Carlos tried 12 guns, starting with the largest full-size guns, and by the time we got to the smallest sub compacts, they were both shooting Holes in Holes with my M&P Shield!👏
🎯 Crisia @sincolormusic came to class with her wife Yessica and was terrified to even shoot 22LR but ended the class shooting holes in holes with 9mm!👏
What helped Crisia was the realization that she was building a relationship with the trigger. She could feel the stages down to the wall, and still being able to finesse, not force the trigger past the wall.
Really proud of their interview on CNN about being a Queer Brown couple changing the narrative on what gun ownership looks like.
Dasan is one of the fastest learners I've ever had!
After warming up with 22LR and initial shock from his 1st shot with 9mm, he was off to the races!
This is the 1st Pistol 101 group I told about our new #LAPSOneHoleChallenge and Dasan was so close to passing it!
All 3 attempts...he's consistently shooting 4 shots touching in one hole and just missing the last shot! His father, brother and I were literally holding our breath with excitement watching Dasan shoot each time.
As a 1st time shooter, James had no flinch or anticipation because he understood the fundamentals don't change at all regardless what gun or caliber I put in his hands.
So last time, even though Andrew was nervous his first time shooting a gun at Pistol 101, he shot so well, he earned our exclusive patch shooting #LAPSOneHoleChallenge!
So proud of him still shooting holes in holes with just one hand only his 2nd time shooting a gun in his life!👏
2 weeks ago, Muriel was so afraid of 9mm, I had to coax her to try just 1 round out of her new Glock.
1 week ago, I weaned her off of 22LR and she shot her 1st groups of 9mm.
At yesterday's weekly coaching, every group Muriel shot was a tight group at 5yds on a 4" circle.
During her kids' Spring break, Rocio booked her family to learn to shoot, as something she always wanted to do on her bucket list.
15yo Roseali and 21yo Samantha had never shot guns before. Their 17yo brother Jaime had gone previously with a cousin so he was most confident while Samantha was the most nervous.
By the end of the lesson, all 3 siblings were shooting holes in holes with 9mm at 5yds with red dot, and Rocio and Jaime Sr. were so proud of their children's performance!
With some arthritic issues, Cris was still able to rack the slide after being shown efficient technique and body mechanics.
July is Disability Pride Month. We love teaching folks of all abilities they can totally operate and manipulate guns with proper technique and there are also plenty of assistive devices one can add to their handguns to make it easier to do more difficult things like racking the slide.
After warming up with 22LR and then letting her shoot 1 round of 9mm to see how she feels, Cris shot the next 4 rounds touching each other at a 4" circle at 5yds!💪🏾
Brooke came to class the most nervous about guns and it was incredible to see the transformation to being so calm and confident by the end of class, shooting Holes in Holes consistently!
Rishab shot a tight group with his 1st 5 shots of 9mm at 5 yards, and then shot his next 5 shots all touching, passing our #LAPSOneHoleChallenge and earning an exclusive patch!
