Whether you are totally new to firearms, or it's been a long time since you've touched a pistol, Pistol 101 is a full day comprehensive course that covers everything to give you a strong foundation with gun safety, how pistols work inside and out, and how to shoot them accurately and consistently.
You don't need to own a gun since we provide all guns & ammo, eye and electronic ear protection for the most comfortable experience.
We also have the latest innovations and accessories to accommodate folks of all physical and visual abilities.
FIREARMS SAFETY (1 hour)
This is the most important part of the course, which is why unlike other trainers who rush through gun safety, we spend a lot of time to instill a healthy respect for guns and always adhering to the safety rules. We have discussions and show videos of actual unsafe gun incidents to show how easy it is to break the safety rules due to our automatic human behavior.
We emphasize that no one is above the safety rules, no matter how much experience we think we have around firearms.
Whoever you choose for firearms training, please make sure to vet their qualifications & ask how recent the last class was they attended as a student to stay updated and not become complacent in this profession, being responsible for people's safety.
PISTOL OPERATION (1 hour)
We demystify how pistols work, inside and out, by giving each student their own Glock pistol in its parts to understand how each part works and put the pistol back together themselves.
Then, students learn how to properly & safety LOAD and UNLOAD a semi-automatic pistol with dummy rounds.
We teach best practices to avoid injuries like slide bite, using efficient body mechanics & accessories to rack the slide, and avoiding the common mistake of unloading a pistol wrong with a cartridge still in the chamber.
FUNDAMENTALS OF MARKSMANSHIP (1 hour)
We teach the most updated and efficient techniques to shoot a pistol accurately and consistently.
Where many trainers with law enforcement or military background are teaching what they learned decades ago in their service and not kept updated, we are civilian trainers who bring the latest innovations in both techniques and gear from the competition world.
Current law enforcement officers have taken our classes to replace their outdated practices with the most efficient skills that anyone can learn from day 1.
LIVE FIRE PRACTICE (1 to 1.5 hours)
We end the lesson by having students put everything they learned into practice. We use Glock pistols chambered in .22LR which is less recoil and less intimidating for first time shooters and then build up their confidence to shoot 9mm at the end of the class.
We also introduce students to shooting with pistol optics aka Red Dot sights, which are the latest innovation to help people with all visual abilities aim with less frustration and shoot more accurately.
The proof is in the results: Watch videos of our students who are most afraid of guns be able to shoot Holes in Holes their first time with a gun.
Burro Canyon Shooting Park in Azusa: This is our main teaching location which is an outdoor range in the San Gabriel Mountains where the 605 freeway ends at the 210 freeway.
The outdoor range is less noisy, especially with our noise cancelling electronic ear protection. It is a much more comfortable and less intimidating experience for new shooters at our own private bay, for a more private and secure experience, away from the untrained general public. For health safety, shooting outdoors is minimal lead exposure compared to shooting indoors and we provide de-lead hand wipes before heading home.
For solo students, we start the lesson at our comfortable classroom in Norwalk. For couples and groups, we conduct the entire lesson at the Azusa range. Starting the lesson at our Norwalk classroom is always an option for anyone sensitive to hot or cold weather in the mountains. Private lessons are available 7 days a week.
